Innovative Healthcare Design:

The new hospital follows a research-based approach to the benefits of healthcare design which can be seen in the careful and complimentary choice of colour and materials, finishes and furniture to help create a calming, welcoming hospital environment, promoting spiritual and mental wellness for users and staff.

‘NVDC blended client’s corporate colours into the overall interior scheme resulting in a unique colour combination. A calming green was introduced in the main reception area and leads patients up the staircase to the ward area on the first floor which features shades of peony found in the company brand. The palette is tied together via the rich dark mahogany of the floors, doors, and wall panels,’ explains Anna Dach, project architect.

Sustainability and Regeneration:

Adaptive re-use of existing buildings and addressing regeneration is a strong focus for NVDC. Our extensive experience in conservation, sustainability and re-use projects for our clients throughout UK has informed our design for Elanic Hospital, which typifies a sustainable approach, impacting positively on the wider regeneration of the city centre.

The project highlights include:

Creative remodelling and expansion of floor space to satisfy the client’s space requirements by infilling the substantial 2 storey banking hall;

Upgrading the original 40-year-old fabric involving replacement of windows & curtain wall glazing system with double glazing and installation of new insulation within the premises;

Modern energy-efficient systems such as LED lighting systems and new heat recovery ventilation in accordance with SHTM guidelines;

Community Impact:

NVDC's commitment to revitalizing the Bath Street building aligns with our vision of fostering vibrant city centres. By transforming a vacant commercial unit into a healthcare hub, Elanic Hospital creates jobs, attracts activity, and contributes to Glasgow's regeneration. Re-using existing buildings is an environmentally responsible action, regardless of the building’s architectural qualities. This project not only preserves a significant piece of Glasgow's architectural heritage but also supports the community's economic growth.

A message from our client:

“In Elanic Hospital we have created a cutting-edge facility, right bang into the city centre, with unique features such as a glass frontage to the main theatre and recovery rooms, bringing in natural light and spectacular views across the city.  A lot of people thought that it couldn’t be achieved but NVDC has done it, in a responsive and innovative way.

Elanic Hospital cements NVDC’s reputation as one of the pre-eminent healthcare architects in the UK. ‘NVDC are the premier small hospital designer in Scotland. The top three independent hospitals in the country have all been designed and built by them. They have a keen eye for the regulations, embrace innovation and are great at getting everything over the line.”
